Your New Monthy Hair Routine: A Guide By Colorbytasha

Hello everyone! My name is Natasha Melendez, although most of my clients know me as @colorbytasha, and I’m a 21-year-old hairdresser and facialist from the sunny and beautiful St. Petersburg, Florida. For the past two years, I’ve been fortunate enough to turn my passion into a career, helping my clients look and feel their best.

One of the questions I often get asked by my clients is, "What should my hair routine look like?" A great hair care routine is crucial for keeping your locks healthy, shiny, and strong. Here’s a simple yet effective routine that you can repeat monthly!

Week 1:

Clarify and Deep Condition Products:

  1. Clarifying Shampoo: Find a color-safe shampoo that removes product residue and impurities, without stripping away natural oils. One of my favorites is the Malibu C Pro Un-Do-Goo Clarifying Shampoo.

  2. Deep Conditioner: After clarifying, your hair needs hydration. I recommend the Joico K-PAC Color Therapy Masque or any of their other deep treatments! This will help to restore moisture and nutrients.

Week 2:

Trim and Nourish Products:

  1. Leave-In Conditioner: A leave-in product, like the Joico Blonde Life Blonde Strong Detangler, will help keep your hair moisturized.

  2. Split-End Serum: Try the Moroccan Oil Treatment, I love both the Original and the Purple for blondes, to seal split ends and add shine. Schedule a trim every 6-8 weeks to prevent split ends and maintain the shape of your haircut.

Week 3:

Scalp Care Products:

  1. Scalp Scrub: Don’t neglect your scalp! Healthy hair starts with a healthy scalp. Use a scalp scrub to remove dead skin cells and improve circulation. Exfoliate your scalp with a product like the Kristen Ess Instant Exfoliating Scalp Scrub.

  2. Scalp Treatment: Use a treatment like Vegamour GRO Hair Serum to promote hair growth and maintain scalp health.

Week 4:

Protect and Style Products:

  1. Heat Protectant Spray: Always protect your hair before using any heat styling tools. I love the Redken One United Leave-in Conditioner with 25 Benefits. I use this as my Thermal Protection Spray.

  2. Hair Oil: Finish with a lightweight oil like the Shibui Replenishing Hair Oil to add shine and tame frizz.

Extra Tips for Healthy Hair All Year Round

  1. Diet Matters: What you eat plays a huge role in the health of your hair. Make sure you’re getting plenty of vitamins, especially B vitamins, iron, and omega-3 fatty acids

  2. Hydrate: Drink lots of water to keep your hair hydrated from the inside out.

  3. Avoid Overwashing: Washing your hair too often can strip it of its natural oils. Aim for 2-3 times a week.

  4. Sleep on Silk: Swap your cotton pillowcase for a silk one to reduce friction and prevent breakage.

Final Thoughts Being a hairdresser is more than just cutting and styling hair; it’s about building relationships, making people feel good about themselves, and staying connected to the latest trends and techniques. It’s a career that keeps you on your toes, but it’s also incredibly rewarding. Whether you’re a fellow stylist or someone looking to improve their hair care routine, I hope these tips help you on your journey to healthy, beautiful hair.

Thanks for reading! If you’re ever in St. Pete and need a fresh cut, color, or a facial, don’t hesitate to drop by! And remember, whether you’re rocking beachy waves or a sleek bob, the most important thing is to wear your hair with confidence!
