Work-Life Balance Tips for Career-Focused Women
The crazy holiday season is over, and now is the perfect time to fulfill all those goals about work-life balance.
If you've seen Emily In Paris (btw, when is this new season coming out?!?), they talk about the American culture of "live to work" vs the French culture of "work to live." This hits home for all of us workaholics out there! At Team Social Savvy, we know firsthand that when it comes to being in the creative field of copywriting and content creation, we NEED to have those boundaries in place to produce the highest quality of work and not be stuck in a burnout rut, AND maintain a health life outside of the office.
I think it's so safe to say that you can love what you do, yet still have time for that amazing life outside of the office. In this article, we are talking about practical tips for attaining that WLB we all dream of (+ can make happen)!
Step 1: Prioritize and Delegate
Identify your priorities both at work and in your personal life. Delegate tasks when possible to avoid burnout.
Step 2: Set The Snooze
Establish boundaries between work and personal time. Set the snooze on your notifications, have a separate phone for work, or even set office hours. Entrepreneurs, we are talking to you, too!
Step 2: Manage Your Time
Do you ever feel like there isn't enough time in the day? That's probably because there isn't for all that you are trying to squeeze in! Create a schedule and organize tasks using tools like calendars or apps. Allocate specific time blocks for work, family, exercise, and relaxation, so you can see on paper what you are working with. If you run out of room in a schedule, chances are there's way too much on your plate.
Step 3: Schedule Self-Care
We are in our penciled-in self-care era. Dedicate time for self-care. Whether it's exercise, meditation, reading, hobbies, or whatever that looks like for you - put it on the calendar if you want it to happen.
Step 4: Learn to Say No
Hey fellow people-pleaser, did you read that and immediately shutter? This is necessary for everyone to learn sooner or later: you have to say no sometimes or you will be stuck in the hamster wheel that is saying yes to everything. You aren't disappointing people, you are helping yourself!
Step 5: Assets Your Responsibilities
Regularly assess and reassess your work-life balance. Adjustments might be necessary as circumstances change. Do you need to shift your current responsibilities? Where can you delegate? Where can you learn to say no?
Step 7: Learn to Unplug
Find hobbies beyond a screen. This was one of the hardest steps for me because I love a good zone-out TikTok scroll, but try turning that into something else and enjoy the unplugging! Designate tech-free periods during the day or week to detach from work-related notifications and focus on personal life.
Balancing work and personal life is an ongoing process. Experiment with these tips and tailor them to your lifestyle!
