Energy Audit: Why You Take an Audit Of What's Filling Up Your Cup (And What's Not)
We hope you're having a relaxing and restful summer full of travel, sun, and sand!
Just around the corner is typically when busy season hits for most. Between back to school, holidays, weather changes, and of course new work projects thrown into the mix, September-December always feels like a mad rush!
While you're prepping for this season, or soaking up the last bit of the more peaceful summer season, we love to introduce you (or remind you if you've already heard) of energy auditing to ensure you dive right into burnout.
What is Energy Auditing
Now, you might have heard of energy auditing for your home, but we are actually talking about reflecting on what you are personally putting your energy into.
We all have those weeks when we feel like we just can't catch up, or when the burnout sets in. When you first start to feel overwhelmed, that's when you should start auditing!
Think about it like your new year's resolutions, but in reverse. For resolutions, it's all about where you want to put your focus into for the new year. This is like a review where you find out where you are actually putting that effort and if you need to redirect or take away in some areas.
Why Do an Energy Audit
We all have a million responsibilities! School, work, family, friends, volunteering, fun projects, your community, and beyond, they all add up. However, we get to choose where to put our energy in those categories. It's important to realize those things that are weighing you down, so you know how you can (1) redirect this so you aren't exhausted for the things you care about the most (2) or eliminate completely so you can make room for other focus areas in your life.
This is a fun way to look at all the things in your life and make room for all those amazing things that fill up our cups!
How To Audit Your Time
Start by looking at your calendar and making a list of all the things you do on a daily and weekly basis. After that, rewrite your list by priority. At the bottom of your list you'll find all your answers!
From there, think about how you can pivot or eliminate. Is this a task that you can delegate? Can you make it more fun for you? Can you create better boundaries around it? Throw out any and all ideas in a brain dump and create a plan from there.
We hope you come back and revisit this blog article frequently and remember that where you put your energy is important!
