A Review Of Most Dope: The Extraordinary Life of Mac Miller
This month, we decided to go with a celebrity memoir for our Savvy Edit book club! While flying back from a content day for our social media agency, we were scanning through a bookstore line up and landed on this one. We all read the prologue while we were waiting for our flight to board, and we knew we had to pick this one. The prologue was amazing, but the rest of the book, well check out our full reviews below!

I came into this one really excited because I didn't know much of the B.T.S. of Mac Miller's story. This book was written by someone who didn't work with him personally, and I do think that shows. It felt a bit like reading a news article, versus a story on someone's life. I think it felt real and honest, but at the same time just a bit too surface level. It did a great job of looking into the industry as a whole and not sugarcoating certain topics, but I was craving more of Mac's POV from people who knew him on a deeper level.

Not going to lie… this is the first book I’ve DNF’d in a long time. And trust me, I’m not someone who likes to quit on a book, especially one about Mac Miller.
But after getting through 57 pages, it just wasn’t what I expected. It read more like a deep dive into the history of the music industry than a biography of Mac’s life. Which isn’t to say I don’t appreciate a good music industry lesson. It just wasn’t the reason I believe we chose this book for March’s book club pick.
So why did we pick it up? The prologue. You guys, the prologue is so good. All of us read it in the San Diego airport while waiting for a flight, and I think it had us fully convinced we were about to dive into a powerful, intimate story about Mac.
And maybe it gets there eventually, but from what I read, it missed the mark for me.
That said, I’m not ruling it out forever. Knowing me, I’ll probably circle back to it later this year. If I do finish it, I’ll be back with a revised review.

Stay tuned, because in April we are ready two books that are for sure a little higher on our scales that this read!
